BOMBANANA! MULTIPLAYER GUIDE

Set up, join, and troubleshoot BOMBANANA multiplayer

Use these answers before buying for an unlisted platform, when a third player is missing, or when an invite, microphone, role slot, or room code prevents the team from starting.

Does BOMBANANA require exactly three players?

Yes. BOMBANANA is designed for exactly three players, with one person assigned to Blind Monkey, one to Mute Monkey, and one to Deaf Monkey. The current Steam store and the developer FAQ both describe a three-player co-op team rather than a scalable two-to-four-player group. If only two people are connected, the intended information chain is incomplete and the lobby should not be treated as ready.

Before opening a Campaign level, confirm that all three role slots are occupied and that each player knows what their role can see, hear, say, or operate. If your group is missing someone, use the in-game Server Browser or the official BOMBANANA community link to find a third player. Do not plan around one person controlling two roles; no reviewed official source documents that as a supported mode.

How do room codes and the Server Browser work?

The developer FAQ says BOMBANANA supports a Server Browser and room codes, so the host does not need every teammate on a Steam friends list. Create a room, copy the current code exactly, and send it through a separate text channel if voice is already being reserved for role communication. Joining players should enter the code without extra spaces and confirm that the lobby name and host match before selecting a role.

For a public session, use the Server Browser and agree on language, roles, and whether the group is learning or pushing Campaign. If the host rebuilds the lobby, share the new code rather than retrying the old one.

Why will the BOMBANANA lobby not start?

Check the simplest requirement first: three connected players and three occupied roles. Then make sure everyone is on the current Steam build, because an outdated client can fail to join or behave differently from the host. Recreate the room after an update, resend the new code, and have the affected player restart BOMBANANA and Steam before changing firewall or router settings. These are troubleshooting steps, not claims about one documented launch bug.

If a Steam invite does nothing, use the room code or Server Browser path named in the developer FAQ. If one person repeatedly disconnects, test a fresh private room with that player joining last, then swap the host to separate a local connection problem from a room problem. Record the exact error message and when it appears. That detail is more useful to support or the community than “multiplayer is broken,” especially during a newly released build.

  • Confirm exactly three connected players and one player in each role.
  • Confirm every client has finished the current Steam update.
  • Recreate the room and distribute the newly generated code.
  • Restart the game and Steam before changing network settings.
  • Capture the exact error text, platform, and build time if the problem remains.

Does every BOMBANANA player need a microphone?

The developer FAQ says two roles need a microphone while Mute Monkey does not. That matches the role design: Mute cannot speak and communicates through gestures, while the other spoken part of the relay must remain audible where the role permits it. Test input devices in Steam and the operating system before forming the lobby. A connected headset is not enough if the wrong microphone is selected or permission is denied.

Keep a text channel available for room codes and technical recovery, but do not use it to erase the intended sensory limits during a normal run. If voice fails, pause the progression attempt and verify device selection, input level, mute switches, and application permission. BOMBANANA callouts should also be short enough to distinguish from background speech: module, stage, required field, answer, position, confirmation. The roles guide provides a reusable protocol once the lobby works.

Do all three players need a copy, and is there split screen?

The reviewed official pages do not advertise a Friend Pass, a one-copy guest system, local co-op, shared-screen play, or Remote Play Together. Steam currently labels BOMBANANA as online co-op. The safe purchase and setup assumption is therefore that every participant needs legitimate access to the game on a separate account and device, unless Lefto Studio publishes a different entitlement. This page does not turn that planning assumption into a confirmed licensing rule.

Three people may still play from the same physical room, but they should expect to connect online from separate devices and preserve the role restrictions. Headphones help prevent one player from hearing information their role is meant to miss, and seating or screens should stop accidental visual leaks. If your goal is couch play on one computer, the current Steam feature list does not confirm that configuration. Check the store again before buying specifically for split screen.

Which platforms, controllers, and handhelds are supported?

The live Steam store and current SteamDB depots confirm Windows and macOS builds. The developer FAQ also names Linux, but no Linux depot or Linux icon appears in the current store data checked on September 3, 2026. That is a real source conflict. Linux players should not treat the FAQ sentence as proof of a downloadable native build; check the live store, Steam client, and recent developer updates before purchasing for Linux.

Steam lists full controller support, while the developer FAQ names Xbox controllers, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock 4, and generic XInput devices. The same FAQ calls BOMBANANA Steam Deck compatible, but this guide does not substitute that statement for Valve’s own Deck verification badge. No reviewed official source confirms console, mobile, Roblox, VR, GeForce NOW, or cross-platform matchmaking as shipping features. Mobile and Roblox are described only as projects in development, and console support as a plan.

Avoid demo answers in the full BOMBANANA release

Older videos and search results may describe the public demo instead of the September 2, 2026 full release. The demo used different Campaign numbering and a smaller content baseline, so a phrase such as “Level 3 math” may not identify Level 3 in the current 30-level Campaign. Confirm the mode, level number, and build before applying an answer. The full-release Level 3 configuration on this wiki is Cable plus Color Slider, while Calculator is fixed later.

When sources disagree, follow the narrower claim and label the conflict. That keeps BOMBANANA setup advice useful without promising an unlisted platform, ownership feature, or local mode. Recheck the source date after a multiplayer patch.

  • Name the current mode and full-release level number when asking for help.
  • Use room codes when a normal Steam invite does not complete the join.
  • Treat unlisted platforms and local modes as unconfirmed, not secretly supported.
  • Use the current in-game manual for live module answers and this wiki for procedure.
